Back to School Means Giving Back

For Williamsburg on the Lake and Carriage House, two Flaherty & Collins Properties managed communities in Elkhart, Indiana, August signified not just the start of the Back to School season, but a chance to give back to those in the community.

Both Carriage House and Williamsburg on the Lake donated items that the properties had been collecting for back to school supplies to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Elkhart County (Ind.) so that children would have backpacks full of necessary supplies on the first day of school – which is rapidly approaching (summer, we hardly knew ye!).

We thank our Property Manager Phyllis Fields and the wonderful site staffs at both properties for getting involved and giving back!

IHCDA to Celebrate Misty Glen, LIHTC Program

30

Misty Glen Apartments was awarded and built with tax credits in 1996 and has been selected by IHCDA to help celebrate 30 years of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program.  Representing Congressional District 1, Misty Glen will be hosting the celebration on August 9, 2016 at 11am.

Misty Glen

October 22, 2016 will mark the 30th Anniversary of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Program.

Through the LIHTC program, over 50,000 units of affordable housing have been developed or preserved in Indiana. This has generated an estimated $2.22 billion in local income and $5.64 billion in tax revenue. It totals up to 40,000 projects, 2.6 million affordable housing units and 95,000 jobs annually nationally.

The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), who administers the program in Indiana, is going to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the program by visiting and highlighting difference making LITHC properties throughout the state, bringing greater awareness and appreciation for the impact the LIHTC program has had in Indiana.

Congratulations, Misty Glen!

Flamme Burger Burns Competition

Flamme Burger, one of The Depot at Nickel Plate‘s main retail tenants, was too hot to handle in the Indianapolis Monthly Burger Time event that was held late last month.

The event consisted of reception-style tasting, with attendees voting on their favorite burger during the Best Burger competition.

Flamme Burger out grilled several other local favorites, including Harry & Izzy’s, Petersons, Bru Burger, St. Elmos, Kuma’s, B Spot and others. They will be featured in the August issue of Indianapolis Monthly.

In addition to luxurious apartments featuring the latest trends and amenity spaces featuring state-of-the-art technology and innovation, The Depot at Nickel Plate features 17,000 square feet of retail space – with popular places like Flamme Burger drawing in the crowds. At Flaherty & Collins Properties, we care deeply about the environment. From the development of new projects that include groundbreaking and new technologies that showcase LEED and Green Features (read more about that here), to the more than 100 apartment communities and 15,550+ units we currently manage across the nation.

This year, two of our properties showcased our affection for Mother Earth with a resident event. Carriage House and Williamsburg on the Lake, two of our managed communities in Elkhart, Indiana celebrated Earth Day with our residents.

Over 30 attendees made “dirt cups” to pass out using chocolate pudding, crushed oreos, and gummy worms on top!

In addition, the event featured word searches, coloring pages, and planted seeds. Many had fun using ice cream cones for our pots, and everyone took a plant home to put in their patio or on their balcony. The ice cones are biodegradable and earth friendly.
