On Saturday, the Apartment Association of Kansas City (AAKC) hosted the 19th Annual Crystal Merit Awards that recognize excellence in the mulitfamily industry in and around the great Kansas City area.

One of Flaherty & Collins Properties newest developments, The Heights Linden Square, earned distinction that made our team in attendance quite happy.

Ryan Cronk, Flaherty & Collins Properties Vice President of Development, was named “Owner of the Year”, while The Heights was named “Property of the Year – Under 2 Years”.

Opening Up The Heights Linden Square

IMG_1710Last week, members of the Flaherty & Collins Properties team traveled west from our corporate offices in Indianapolis to the beautiful city of Kansas City. It was finally time to officially open The Heights Linden Square, Gladstone’s finest new apartment community.

You’ve seen posts of progress and read the list of amenities, but until you see The Heights in person, you’ve not seen anything yet. Nestled in the heart of downtown Gladstone’s urban core, The Heights looks like something that was meant to be there, between dining options, entertainment and more.

Our team arrived sporadically throughout the early part of the week to ensure the Grand Opening of The Heights Linden Square was truly, well, grand!

Over 200 people came to enjoy the ribbon cutting ceremony and hear some words on the project from Mayor Bill Garnos, City Manager Kirk Davis, Suzanne McKinney of the Gladstone Area Chamber of Commerce and Flaherty & Collins Properties CEO David Flaherty and Vice President Ryan Cronk.

And as Mr. Flaherty indicated in his notes, public/private partnerships are our specialty! These mixed-use development projects create numerous opportunities for both residents and the city.

Snow & Co. provided a wonderful buffet for guests and we raffled off gifts from Google, Nest, and the Gladstone Area Chamber of Commerce. Attendees were able to tour the property’s numerous amenities, as well as visit the model and guest suite for a taste of the life residents will and have been enjoying!

Our team enjoyed some great BBQ and many other fun activities as well! It was a pleasure to open The Heights last week and we hope everyone enjoys the property as much as we do.

Giving Back to Give Thanks

photo 4Today, we had a corporate Chili Cook-Off at Flaherty & Collins Properties, with the proceeds ($2 per bowl) going to the Mozel Sanders Foundation Thanksgiving Day campaign. These are the days we enjoy quite a bit, as our competitive juices start flowing and we really try to best each other. This year, we had our Development, Management and Construction Teams square off against each other, and it turned out to be a true taste test.

Management’s Gavin Greene’s chili was named Grand Champion, while Noelle Malatestinic was named “Fan Favorite.” And the award for Most Unique was awarded to Ryan Cronk of our Development team, but luckily his wife, Kelli, was on hand to claim the trophy since she did the work, anyway!

The event raised over $1,000, which Flaherty & Collins Properties combined with a pledged donation of $2,000 to assist with the Mozel Sanders Foundation Thanksgiving Day campaign, which will serve 41,500 meals next week.  In 2013, over 2,000 volunteers served over 40,000 meals from 45 locations for the annual Mozel Sanders Foundation Thanksgiving Day campaign. In 2013, the average cost per meal was $4.50.

In addition, Flaherty & Collins Properties, which has donated to various areas of the Mozel Sanders Foundation for many years, has been collecting  non-perishable goods, personal hygiene products and household cleaning supplies over the past six weeks to help support Mozel Sanders’ efforts in this area during the holiday season and beyond. The Foundation distributes more than 30,000 pounds of these items each month of the year. One of Flaherty & Collins Properties local apartment communities, Westlake, donated over 1,000 items alone, including 592 toothbrushes and 75 rolls of toilet paper.
