Today, we had a corporate Chili Cook-Off at Flaherty & Collins Properties, with the proceeds ($2 per bowl) going to the Mozel Sanders Foundation Thanksgiving Day campaign. These are the days we enjoy quite a bit, as our competitive juices start flowing and we really try to best each other. This year, we had our Development, Management and Construction Teams square off against each other, and it turned out to be a true taste test.

Management’s Gavin Greene’s chili was named Grand Champion, while Noelle Malatestinic was named “Fan Favorite.” And the award for Most Unique was awarded to Ryan Cronk of our Development team, but luckily his wife, Kelli, was on hand to claim the trophy since she did the work, anyway!

The event raised over $1,000, which Flaherty & Collins Properties combined with a pledged donation of $2,000 to assist with the Mozel Sanders Foundation Thanksgiving Day campaign, which will serve 41,500 meals next week.  In 2013, over 2,000 volunteers served over 40,000 meals from 45 locations for the annual Mozel Sanders Foundation Thanksgiving Day campaign. In 2013, the average cost per meal was $4.50.

In addition, Flaherty & Collins Properties, which has donated to various areas of the Mozel Sanders Foundation for many years, has been collecting  non-perishable goods, personal hygiene products and household cleaning supplies over the past six weeks to help support Mozel Sanders’ efforts in this area during the holiday season and beyond. The Foundation distributes more than 30,000 pounds of these items each month of the year. One of Flaherty & Collins Properties local apartment communities, Westlake, donated over 1,000 items alone, including 592 toothbrushes and 75 rolls of toilet paper.
