The Week Ahead

It’s an exciting a busy week around the Flaherty & Collins Properties offices this week.

If you’re in or around Muncie, be sure to stop by our booth and the Ball State University Cardinal Job Fair on Wednesday, September 16. The Fair runs from 11am-3pm at the Worthen Arena.

Our President, Jerry Collins and Senior Vice President, Jill Herron, were both on campus just last week to help celebrate the grand opening of the Weidner Center, home of the flourishing Residential Property Management (RPM) program. Ball State’s residential property management program began in 1999. Today it is one of only nine such university-based RPM programs in the country, offering undergraduate, graduate and online courses. Plans are underway to offer an introduction to commercial real estate management course in spring 2016.

Also this week, be on the lookout for the F&C Team at the 2015 Midwest Multifamily Conference, running Wednesday and Thursday in downtown Indianapolis. The F&C team should be visible in our retro-inspired Western t-shirts (be sure to check out our slogan). The President’s Dinner concludes the event, with the presentation of Prodigy Awards on Thursday night at the Indiana Roof Ballroom. Several Flaherty & Collins Properties are nominated for numerous awards, so we’ll be there in full force hoping to take home some hardware.

Last, but not least, is the exciting “River Days” – which just concluded this past weekend at The Landing in Mt. Vernon, Ind. River Days celebrates the history and heritage of Mt. Vernon and The Landing was in the middle of the fun, with a gorgeous weekend of celebrating. River Days includes a Children’s Pet Parade, a 5K run/walk, the River Days Parade, an art show, tow boat races and more.

The Landing Named Top Rural Development in AHF Readers’ Choice Awards

Lots of excitement around the office today, as we were notified that the readers of Affordable Housing Finance have selected The Landing, a Flaherty & Collins Properties development, as the top Rural Development in 2014. Click here to read the announcement in full.

“We’re extremely proud of this project,” said Duane Miller, Vice President of Community & Asset Development. “We are thrilled to be honored by the readers of AHF, as well as happy for what The Landing is doing for the Mount Vernon community.”

The Landing features 46 affordable units: 34 one-bedrooms and 12 two-bedrooms. The six market-rate units comprise four two-bedrooms and two three-bedrooms. In addition, the property features 6,800 square feet of retail space, the first tenant of which is Bliss Artisan Ice Cream.

Grand Opening of The Landing

Today, Flaherty & Collins Properties is proud to officially open The Landing, a mixed-use development in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Featuring fabulous views of the Ohio River, The Landing is a truly unique mix of 52 residential units, comprised of 46 affordable units and 6 market-rate units. The property also features nearly 8,000 square feet of retail space.

The Grand Opening ceremony will be held on the property – 111 E. Water Street in Mount Vernon – today from 12-1pm CST.

“The Landing has changed the landscape of downtown Mount Vernon by maximizing the tremendous location with a unique concept for mixed-use development,” says Duane Miller, Vice President of Community & Asset Management at Flaherty & Collins Properties. “Everyone involved in this project is thrilled with the result.”

Constructed by Flaherty & Collins and co-developed by 21^st Century Leadership Posey County and J. Higgs Development, The Landing is a a partnership between 21st Century Leadership Posey County, Flaherty & Collins, City Real Estate Advisors and Fifth Third Bank. Other project partners include the City of Mount Vernon, IHCDA and Myszak+Palmer, Inc. First Merchants Bank provided the construction bridge loan for the development.

Units range from 700 square feet to 2,175 square feet and are equipped with energy efficient appliances, washer and dryer units and ceramic tile in the bathrooms. The community features several amenities, from the roof top terrace with breathtaking views of the Ohio River to a spacious courtyard and 1,200 square foot community room with TV and fish tank.

Bliss Artisan (ice cream, sandwich, and coffee shop) has committed to retail space and will be on-hand to provide samples of their handmade ice cream to attendees of the ceremony. If you are around, stop in and say hello, pick-up some ice cream and check out The Landing!

The Landing is looking good! We’re excited about this development, as you might be able to tell.

Located near grocery stores, restaurants, and community parks, The Landing is an ideal home for individuals who desire convenient living with a luxury view of the riverfront and amphitheater.

The Landing will feature ceramic tile and lush carpets. Kitchens will feature maple cabinets and Energy Star appliances. All apartment homes will have a washer and dryer; along with access to the rooftop terrace and community room.
