A Record 11 Wins for Flaherty & Collins!

Last week, we mentioned that the Flaherty & Collins team had a busy few days ahead with the Ball State University Cardinal Job Fair and the 2015 Midwest Multifamily Conference both taking place.

After a few days to properly recover from our celebrations, we’re happy to share that the F&C team set a new record for the number of awards received at this year’s President’s Dinner on Thursday evening! The President’s Dinner is one of the most anticipated events of the year, as it signifies both the culmination of the annual Midwest Multifamily Conference and a night to honor those communities and individuals that truly go above and beyond for their residents. This is the second year in a row that our team has brought home a record number of awards (with 7 awards last year and 11 awards this year!), making the evening even more exciting.

Behind the Scenes: The Heights at Linden Square

Nearly one year ago to the day, we shared a behind the scenes look at our mixed-use development located in Gladstone, Missouri – The Heights at Linden Square. At the time, our development was still mostly dirt and construction tools. Our crews were working in frigid weather, doing their best to keep construction moving throughout the harsh winter. Almost a year later, we’re excited to share a new batch of behind the scenes photos featuring our clubhouse and apartment homes!

Combining the excitement of metropolitan Kansas City and the splendor of luxury apartment living, The Heights at Linden Square is positioned just north of downtown Kansas City. As we’ve opened our doors to prospective residents, we’ve heard more and more about the excellent location of the community. Our location offers easy and convenient access to a quiet home atmosphere along with all of the hustle and bustle that Kansas City has to offer.

Additionally, residents can look forward to enjoying a host of exclusive amenities intended to make every day at home a luxurious experience. Ranging from the indoor amenities (a fully equipped fitness center and club room with a gaming area) to the luxury of a fully built outdoor living area (featuring an outdoor yoga/zen meditation garden, fire pits, TVs and a heated saltwater pool), Flaherty & Collins Properties is excited to offer our residents amenities that encompass all areas of life.

The Heights at Linden Square is open to the public now at their preview center. For more information on the community or to choose your new home, please contact them directly by calling (816) 286-4099. And be sure to keep up with us this week as we share more Behind the Scenes photos on Twitter!

Introducing Pet Week

Around the Flaherty & Collins offices, we really enjoy getting to know our residents – including the furry ones!

We’re proud to be a management company that welcomes both cats and dogs* into our communities, so that our residents always feel comfortable and happy in their homes. As we’ve seen more and more pets coming home, we’ve had a great time trying out the latest pet amenities and talking to residents about how we can improve our property to help pets feel at home, too.

Along the way, we’ve also discovered that there are some key factors that help our residents keep their pets happy in their apartment homes. Today, we’re sharing a few of those tips with all of you to help kick off pet week!

Check out pet amenities before you move in!
While we love welcoming new residents home as quickly as possible, we want you (and your pets!) to have a great experience at our community. One way to make sure that your pets will be happy is to make sure there’s enough space for your pets in your home, and that your pets meet the community standards (like being up to date on shots and being spayed or neutered). These simple steps will save a lot of time later, when you’re wondering how you and your pup are going to live peacefully in the apartment home you chose… if only you had chosen that two bedroom, instead!

At some of our communities, we offer additional pet amenities like walking trails, a Bark Park, a pet wash station, and pet clean up stations. If these are offered, make sure you stop by and check them out! They may help you decide which apartment home you like best as well; easy access to the pet wash after a muddy walk is always great.

It may sound silly, but keep in mind that you aren’t the only resident in your apartment – and as such, you aren’t the only neighbor, either! While your neighbors may not be dog (or cat) people, it’s nice to introduce your pet to your neighbors. Not only will it help them feel a bit more comfortable with a pet living next door, but it also could come in handy if your pet accidentally got out of the apartment one day and someone else recognized them. Best case, you may make a new friend in your neighbor!

If you have a dog, this likely means finding time to take the dog out to walk, play, and use the restroom. If you have a cat, they may enjoy spending time alone, but they’ll likely want your attention too! Schedule a few minutes in each day where you can spend time with your pet and give them the attention they need to stay happy, even if that’s just a few minutes to give them a treat!

Learn how to remove pet hair.
Even the cleanest of pets will have a little bit of shedding (and in the worst case, LOTS of shedding!). To help maintain cleanliness in your household, it’s great to know how to get pet hair off everything from the couch to the counters. We’ve found this guide from Apartment Therapy to be very helpful; and it covers all the surfaces you can think of, even down to the pets themselves.

This week, we’ll be sharing more tips and tricks on our social media channels, and we’ll be running a cutest pet contest! If you think you’ve got the cutest pet in your community, be sure to stop by our Facebook page to leave a photo. We’ll be sharing our favorites and using them to go along with our tips for Pet Week.

*Of course, not every property is able to accept pets. Please call the property that you are interested in calling home to ask for more information on their pet policy.

Community Spotlight: Historic Muncie

HistoricMuncie

Today, we take a look at a truly historic achievement on a legendary building in Muncie, Indiana and turn the spotlight on our Historic Muncie property.

Historic Muncie includes the Canopic building with 24 units, plus nine single-family houses. Two of the nine houses are duplexes. Canopic has one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartment floor plans, as well as efficiency units ranging in square footage from 435 to 1,580. Amenities include a computer room with internet access, 24-Hour maintenance, 10-14 foot ceilings, dishwashers, kitchen bar, hardwood floors, oil-rub bronze hardware, digital climate control and original oak trim.

canopicThe W.W. Shirk Building, also known as the Canopic was built as a commercial and residential structure in 1906. It is a three-story, Italian renaissance revival style, masonry design. The Canopic’s design shows similarities to other apartments or flats constructed at that time in Muncie.

Construction began in December of 2008 and was completed in November of 2009. Income and student restrictions apply. For more information, please stop by our leasing office located at 451 E 2nd Street.

Maintenance Mania 2014

Another Indiana Apartment Association Maintenance Mania is in the books!

This year was the 8th annual Maintenance Mania event, where attendees compete in seven skill-based events and a race car competition where the participants make pinewood derby cars out of maintenance materials. These table games are built around common maintenance activities. Some of the time events are standard for MM programs: Water Heater Installation, Faucet Installation, Flush Toilet Conversion, Icemaker Installation and a Deadbolt Test. For more information, check out http://www.iaaonline.net/sections/mania.php.

In addition, Maintenance Mania includes a series of seminars to promote different topics of interest in the field.

During the competition, Flaherty & Collins brought 41 of our maintenance staff to compete in the timed events – the largest (and loudest!) group at the event.

As always, racing the cars was one of the highlights of the day.

This year, we brought home two trophies. Paul Palacios, an accountant out of our corporate office, took home second place in the Frigidaire Icemaker Installation event. Thanks to our cheerleaders, we also brought home a spirit award! MM4 MM6
